Large Louis XV fireplace carved in a natural hard white stone

This magnificent stone fireplace is a beautiful handmade mantel realised by the Provencal stone workshop of Alain Bidal.

Carved and sculpted with the greatest care in a natural hard white limestone, it takes its inspiration from the fireplaces of Louis XV style. Its jambs are massive and fretted. The large monolith lintel is animated in the centre with a magnificent sculpture made by hand representing an asymmetrical shell lined with foliage called "rockery". The hearth opening is nicely carved in curves and counter-curves, and an opulent molding surrounds it. The tablet has fine mouldings thus perfectly emphasising the movement of the lintel.
